BASIC NOTES

Uranium Companies

There are very few pure uranium companies. Most companies, especially the small exploration type, are active in more than the uranium industry. This blog makes no attempt to guage the percentage of a companies activity that are related to the finding, mining or processing of uraniun. They all do, however, have some uranium activities (to the best of our review).

Merv's Uranium Indices

I have developed two Uranium Indices. They each have the same component stocks but are calculated using different methodologies. My weekly Index is based upon the average weekly performance of the component stocks. My daily Index is based upon the daily average of the component stocks open, high, low and close prices along with the daily average volume of all component stocks.

Merv’s Daily Uranium Index
Market Data

Open: 133.15
High: 137.71
Low: 129.79
Close: 134.61
Volume: 3684

Note that the volume is an average volume of round lot sales for the 5 0 component stocks. For total volume, multiply by 5000.

We’re still in the frustration zone. The Index seems very loath to get going in either direction.

The Merv’s Daily Uranium Index closed higher today, by all of 1.37 points or 1.03%. For the Uranium Index that’s almost nothing. There were 21 winners, 20 losers and 9 going nowhere. Again, a very neutral kind of day. As for the five largest stocks, they were mostly on the up side. Cameco gained 3.7%, Paladin gained 2.6%, Uranium One gained 0.6%, Uranium Participation lost 3.7% and USEC gained 3.0%. The best gainer was East Asia Minerals with a gain of 15.7% while the worst loser was Continental Precious with a loss of 9.3%.

With the day’s action nothing has changed from yesterday so no use wasting time and effort. Check yesterday’s commentary and just apply it to today. The intermediate term rating remains + NEUTRAL and the short term remains BEARISH. The immediate direction of least resistance remains lateral. Hope we have a more interesting day tomorrow.
