BASIC NOTES

Uranium Companies

There are very few pure uranium companies. Most companies, especially the small exploration type, are active in more than the uranium industry. This blog makes no attempt to guage the percentage of a companies activity that are related to the finding, mining or processing of uraniun. They all do, however, have some uranium activities (to the best of our review).

Merv's Uranium Indices

I have developed two Uranium Indices. They each have the same component stocks but are calculated using different methodologies. My weekly Index is based upon the average weekly performance of the component stocks. My daily Index is based upon the daily average of the component stocks open, high, low and close prices along with the daily average volume of all component stocks.

My apologies for the lack of posting but nothing has been happening in the uranium stock market and my time sort of got used up with other things. Today will also be a short post, just the facts. Hopefully things will get back on track very shortly but as I had mentioned some time back I will not be posting every day for a while.

The Merv’s Daily Uranium Index closed on Friday with a daily gain of 2.10 points or 1.05%. There were 26 winners, 18 losers and 6 stocks confused. Cameco gained 0.0%, Denison gained 2.6%, Extract gained 4.8%, Paladin gained 1.1% and Uranium One gained 1.0%. The best daily winner was Pinetree Capital with a gain of 10.4% while the loser of the day was Formation Metals with a loss of 5.5%. Market Vectors Uranium + Nuclear Energy ETF gained 0.7% while Global X Uranium ETF gained 1.0%.

For the full week the Merv’s Weekly Uranium Index gained 2.03% while the Daily Uranium Index gained 1.28%. There were 28 weekly winners, 19 losers and 3 stocks confused. Cameco lost 2.8%, Denison lost 0.8%, Extract gained 11.8%, Paladin gained 2.2% and Uranium One gained 2.2%. The best weekly winner was Wealth Minerals with a gain of 32.3% while the loser of the week was Forum Uranium with a loss of 12.8%. Market Vectors Uranium + Nuclear Energy ETF gained 0.1% while Global X Uranium ETF gained 2.7%.

It seems like the plunge may be over but a recovery is not yet at hand. I would not be to inclined to jump back in yet as there is still a lot of down side risk. The speculators who move markets are still not back in the market and until they get back in who knows what will happen. You speculate now and you takes your chances (of course, if you are right you get in at the beginning of a new bul). The long and intermediate term are still very much negative so I wouldn’t waste time on them. Their ratings remain BEARISH.

As for the short term let’s start with the daily volume action. It is pathetic. We really need to see this daily volume built up and preferably with upside Index action. Other than the volume everything else is looking positive. The Daily Index is above its short term moving average line although the line has not yet turned upwards. The momentum indicator remains in its negative zone but is moving higher and is above its positive trigger line. The short term rating has improved to a + NEUTRAL rating, just shy a full bull.

I’ll leave it there for today.
