BASIC NOTES

Uranium Companies

There are very few pure uranium companies. Most companies, especially the small exploration type, are active in more than the uranium industry. This blog makes no attempt to guage the percentage of a companies activity that are related to the finding, mining or processing of uraniun. They all do, however, have some uranium activities (to the best of our review).

Merv's Uranium Indices

I have developed two Uranium Indices. They each have the same component stocks but are calculated using different methodologies. My weekly Index is based upon the average weekly performance of the component stocks. My daily Index is based upon the daily average of the component stocks open, high, low and close prices along with the daily average volume of all component stocks.

Merv’s Daily Uranium Index
Market Data

Open: 147.90
High: 149.52
Low: 145.49
Close: 146.85
Volume: 3218

Note that the volume is an average volume of round lot sales for the 50 component stocks. For total volume, multiply by 5000.

Nothing much has happened today except for the Daily Index closing slightly lower (I had expected an upside move, maybe tomorrow). The Index is still above the very recent support and hopefully will stay above the support.

The Merv’s Daily Uranium Index closed lower by 0.88 points or 0.60%. There were 17 winners, 25 losers and 8 sleepers. Cameco gained 0.1%, Extract lost 4.0%, Fronteer lost 3.5%, Paladin lost 2.1% and Uranium One gained 4.6%. The best winner of the day was Forum Uranium with a gain of 13.3% while the loser of the day was Bannerman with a loss of 7.4%. Market Vectors Nuclear Energy ETF lost 0.9%.

This is summer and the weather is inviting. I am going to be taking some leeway with the daily commentary. On days like today I am going to limit my commentary to give me more relaxation time. If something important should be happening I will get off my a— and provide a reasonable comment. Hope you all are also taking time to relax and enjoy.

As I mentioned, nothing has changed today so both the intermediate and short term ratings remain BEARISH.
