BASIC NOTES

Uranium Companies

There are very few pure uranium companies. Most companies, especially the small exploration type, are active in more than the uranium industry. This blog makes no attempt to guage the percentage of a companies activity that are related to the finding, mining or processing of uraniun. They all do, however, have some uranium activities (to the best of our review).

Merv's Uranium Indices

I have developed two Uranium Indices. They each have the same component stocks but are calculated using different methodologies. My weekly Index is based upon the average weekly performance of the component stocks. My daily Index is based upon the daily average of the component stocks open, high, low and close prices along with the daily average volume of all component stocks.

After The Close, 23 Sept 2008

Merv’s Daily Uranium Index
Market Data

Open: 181.35
Hugh: 186.88
Low: 174.17
Close: 180.26
Volume: 4323

Note that the volume is an average volume of round lot sales for the 50 component stocks. For total volume, multiply by 5000.

A small drop in the Index signifying nothing much. Time is a real task master and I seem to be running out of it these days. Today is no different so the commentary will be brief.

The Merv’s Daily Uranium Index closed lower by 1.80 points or 0.99%. There were 16 winners, 26 losers and 8 undecided. Off the five largest stocks we had one winner. Cameco lost 0.6%, Denison lost 7.7%, First Uranium gained 1.6%, Paladin lost 6.7% and Uranium Participation lost 3.3%. The best daily performer was Uranium 308 with a gain of 23.1% while the worst loser was Mega Uranium with a loss of 14.0%.

Intermediate and short term nothing has changed in the indicators with today’s action. Therefore the ratings are real simple, BEARISH for the intermediate term and + NEUTRAL for the short term.

As for the very short term, here too the indicators have not changed. Although it looks like one might take the lateral direction as the direction of least resistance I will still go with the up side due to the very short term moving average line and the positive Stochastic Oscillator.

Tomorrow I hope to be able to have a better commentary.
