BASIC NOTES

Uranium Companies

There are very few pure uranium companies. Most companies, especially the small exploration type, are active in more than the uranium industry. This blog makes no attempt to guage the percentage of a companies activity that are related to the finding, mining or processing of uraniun. They all do, however, have some uranium activities (to the best of our review).

Merv's Uranium Indices

I have developed two Uranium Indices. They each have the same component stocks but are calculated using different methodologies. My weekly Index is based upon the average weekly performance of the component stocks. My daily Index is based upon the daily average of the component stocks open, high, low and close prices along with the daily average volume of all component stocks.

USEC Inc. (N-USU), 12 Nov 2007

Although not in the mining or exploration end of the business USEC Inc. refers to itself as the leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel to commercial uranium plants (check their site at www.usec.com). As for the stock price action, well as the chart shows it has had its ups and downs. It does look like USU is into ma base building period and that further downside may not be in the cards, at least not much below its previous lows. The intermediate term indicators are still in the bearish camp but the signs are there of a strengthening in the momentum indicator. Over the past two months it has been showing greater strength than the price action itself. However, the momentum indicator still has a long way to go to get to the positive zone, and as you can see crossing its neutral line has been a clear signal of trend, up or down.

This is one to watch for better technicals but a bottom fisher might just take a chance and buy some if it should drop back to the $8.00-$8.25 area. That would be a low risk with a stop loss set at $7.75.

USEC Inc. will be added to my Uranium Indices during the week. What it will replace I haven’t decided yet.
