BASIC NOTES

Uranium Companies

There are very few pure uranium companies. Most companies, especially the small exploration type, are active in more than the uranium industry. This blog makes no attempt to guage the percentage of a companies activity that are related to the finding, mining or processing of uraniun. They all do, however, have some uranium activities (to the best of our review).

Merv's Uranium Indices

I have developed two Uranium Indices. They each have the same component stocks but are calculated using different methodologies. My weekly Index is based upon the average weekly performance of the component stocks. My daily Index is based upon the daily average of the component stocks open, high, low and close prices along with the daily average volume of all component stocks.

Merv's Daily Commentary, 24 Oct. 2007

After The Close, 24 Oct 2007

The uranium stocks were at a stalemate today. The Merv’s Daily Uranium Index closed the day with a loss of 0.004 points or 0.09%, almost unnoticeable. There were 20 stocks on the up side, 22 stocks on the down side and 8 stocks remaining unchanged. Of the five largest stocks by market value, Cameco closed down by 0.8%, Denison closed up by 0.5%, Paladin closed up by 1.8%, UEX closed up by 1.9% and Uranium One closed up by 2.8%. The best performer in the Index component stocks was Xemplar with a gain of 17.6% (going gang busters since originally reviewed here two weeks ago). The worst performer was Tournigan with a loss of 10.1%.

The Index remains inside that up trending channel so no panic either way, yet. With the Index also above its positive sloping intermediate term moving average line and the momentum indicator in its positive zone the intermediate term continues to be rated as BULLISH.

The Index also continues to trade above its short term positive sloping moving average line and the MACD momentum indicator remains above its trigger line. Nothing here yet to change the short term rating, it remains BULLISH.
